NCTC College Discovery Day November 20, 2010 at Greensboro College
High School Students- Discover your future in theatre, as you meet more than 20 colleges and participate in exciting sessions! High School Seniors audition and present portfolios, underclassmen prepare for senior year, and everyone gets an in-depth look at college theatre programs in North Carolina. Parents and High School theatre teachers are also welcome! Check out the schedule below!

College Representatives – Find your incoming class and recruit future applicants! You will have the opportunity to assist with sessions, bring your own students to help with recruitment, watch auditions, conduct interviews and participate in the College Fair – all for one low, group price! High School Teachers - You are welcome to attend and (for this year only), your registration is free! Join us to observe auditions, gather information at the college fair, and attend sessions to pass on information to your students. If you would like to attend, please email amanda@nctc.org no later than November 9, so that we can reserve your spot and order lunch for you.
Schedule (subject to change) 8:00-9:00am – Registration
9-9:30am – Welcome Session
9:30am-Noon – Morning Sessions (Students, grades 9-12, rotate through all sessions)
Discover Schools – Learn about NC Colleges and Universities and the differences between public schools, private schools and conservatories.
Discover Majors and Minors – Learn about the differences between BFA and BA majors, as well as options for Theatre minors and participating in theatre programs as a non-major.
Discover Careers – Learn about the many different careers in the theatre industry and how your college study can help you prepare to enter the theatrical workforce.
A Day In The Life of a Theatre Major – Current college students will give you the inside scoop and tell you what it is like to be a college theatre major.
Noon-1:00pm – Lunch
College representatives set-up the College Fair and Seniors prepare for auditions/portfolio presentations.
1:00pm – Auditions and Portfolio Reviews for Seniors
After you audition, schools will post call-backs and we encourage you to visit all booths at the College Fair.
1:00-3:30pm – Afternoon Sessions (Students in grades 9-11, rotate through all sessions)
How to Give a Stellar Interview – Learn how to prepare for college interviews and to stand out from the crowd.
How to Navigate the Admissions Process – Learn about deadlines and procedures. This is your GPS for college admissions.
How to Prepare for College Auditions* – Learn where to find audition material and what you can expect in the audition room.
How to Prepare for Portfolio Reviews* – Learn how to create a portfolio and what colleges are looking for from designers, stage managers and technicians.
*We encourage all students to attend both the audition and portfolio review sessions, which may provide direction as you determine your college focus, and will at minimum give you insight to the other side of the business.
