The Green Room Community Theatre seeks Education Director/Production Manager

The Green Room Community Theatre seeks a full-time Education Director and Production Manager. The Green Room is a thriving organization based in the beautiful state-of-the-art Old Post Office Playhouse located in historic downtown Newton, North Carolina. The theatre’s mission is to entertain, educate, and engage with the community. Through performances, workshops and classes, we strive to provide theatre that meets education standards and inspires our patrons of all ages to learn and grow through the performing arts.

The Education Director and Production Manager will lead and enhance the year-round educational programs at The Green Room Community Theatre and coordinate the production aspects for all theatre performances. This role demands a genuine enthusiasm for working with children, a deep passion for theatre arts education, and outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills. Ideal candidates should have a solid foundation in technical theatre and a strong eagerness to expand their expertise in this area.

Education Director

Educational Programming

  • Oversee all educational offerings from the ground up, including Creative Works classes and summer camps.
  • Recruit theatre education staff: Select and arrange qualified instructors for classes that will reach a wide range of students in Catawba County and bey
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Marketing Manager to promote all classes.
  • Work alongside teachers and student groups to provide support and assistance as needed. Be present and available during classes, camps, etc.
  • Coordinate and oversee Share Nights and camp presentations where students showcase what they have learned to friends and family.

Educational Outreach

  • Arrange visits to local libraries, schools, e, to reach students in our community outside of our “circle” to build interest in our in-house classes and shows.
  • Collaborate with educators in our area (e.g., local school districts, Catawba Valley Community College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and homeschool organizations) to offer apprenticeships and internships for high school and college students.
  • Collaborate with theatre staff to develop additional outreach opportunities for our community.

Field Trips

  • Work with staff to plan, promote, and present field trips to area schools.
  • Create and distribute a curriculum packet for teachers to use in their classrooms before or after their trip to The Green Room, tying the show to specific content areas.

Production Manager

Working With Production Personnel

  • Serve as The Green Room liaison to Directors and Stage Managers, ensuring they have all the personnel, materials, and information they need to lead productions according to Green Room standards and regulations.
  • Act as The Green Room’s point of contact for all cast, crew, and creatives, handling all paperwork, expectations, and personnel issues. Attend first rehearsals to ensure everyone has the Production Manager’s contact information and understand the Production Manager’s role as their advocate, helper, and Green Room staff representative.
  • Assist Directors and Stage Managers through auditions and the casting process, reaching out to those who did not get cast and distributing complimentary tickets when applicable.
  • Schedule and lead Production Meetings for each production: Facilitate the meeting, take notes, and follow up as necessary to ensure the productions move forward as intended.
  • Report any production personnel issues to the Executive Director and act to solve issues in accordance with the Executive Director’s guidance and Green Room standards.

Organizational Tasks

  • Organize rehearsal schedules for all productions and assign rehearsal spaces, keeping a Master Rehearsal Schedule.
  • Gather and compile cast and crew information for each show program and provide this information to the Administrative Assistant to create the program booklet.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with volunteers to further develop a large and vital volunteer base for backstage, crew, and production needs.

Miscellaneous

  • House Manage (in rotation with other staff members) Green Room hosted events.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to foster staff development, team building, and support.
  • Assist staff and board in presenting Green Room special events, such as the annual Volunteer Event, Legacy Gala, and other fundraising events.
  • Assist with daily office communications by answering calls and assisting with box office sales as needed.

Requirements/ Qualifications

  • This is a full-time position. Flexible work hours are possible. Some evenings and weekends are required based on show schedules.
  • Educational and theatre experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and/or theatre is preferred.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to organize curriculum and personnel.
  • Excellent management, relational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of theatre, including lighting, sound, and set design, as well as coordinating any maintenance of equipment.

Salary Range: $38,000-$42,000 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
