Shared Radiance announces auditions for Romeo & Juliet

This production will be a non-AEA project, with several paid principal roles. Contracts will range from $200.00 – $400.00 depending on the role and experience.

This show will be performed in Guilford County, Forsyth County, and other surrounding counties. Shared Radiance specializes in outdoor theater, with some venues including travel from scene to scene for both actors and audience. 

Rehearsals for Romeo & Juliet will begin in late March/early April with performances on May 28th – June 7th (5/28/2026 – 6/7/2026) plus a potential rain date performance on June 8th (6/8/2026).  Auditions will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 PM on January 29th and 30th (1/29/2026 – 1/30/2026) at 609 NC Highway 62 East, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313. 

For this production, auditioners must be 18 years of age, or older. Headshots and resumes are encouraged at the time of audition.  Please prepare a one-minute Shakesepeare monologue. If you are interested in singing, please prepare a 16-bar cut of a song.  Actors will also be given sides for cold reads.

Live auditions are preferred but if you cannot make auditions, video auditions with resumes and headshots can be sent to sarah@sharedradiance.org.  An audition form will be sent to you.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

LEADING ROLES

ROMEO (20-25 Male Presenting): Son of the Montagues. Thought of as a gentleman, but ultimately swayed by passion. This role requires intimacy choreography and fight choreography. 

JULIET (20-25 Female Presenting): Daughter of the Capulets. Considered obedient and wise, but becomes rash when swayed by passion. This role requires intimacy choreography. 

FRIAR LAWRENCE (50+ Male Presenting): Wise and logical father figure to Romeo. 

BENVOLIO / PARIS’ PAGE (20-30 Any Gender): Pacifistic cousin to Romeo.  This role requires fight choreography. 

NURSE (50+ Female Presenting): Comedic relief and a motherly figure to Juliet. 

TYBALT (20-30 Any Gender):  Aggressive vengeful cousin to Juliet. This role requires fight choreography. 

MERCUTIO (25-30 Any Gender): Witty and cynical friend to Romeo. Cousin to the Prince. This role requires fight choreography. 

PRINCE ESCALUS (30+ Any Gender): Authority in Verona and an enemy to chaos. 

LORD CAPULET (40+ Male Presenting): Caring yet quick-tempered father to Juliet. This role requires fight choreography. 

LADY CAPULET (40+ Female Presenting): Loving yet distant mother to Juliet. 

FEATURED ENSEMBLE ROLES

CHORUS; WATCHMEN; MUSICIANS (3 FATES): To serve the story, as an homage to the Greek Fates, these roles will require singing in a three-part harmony. 

ABRAM / BALTHASAR / MONTAGUE SERVANT (18-30 Any Gender): Various Montague allies. This role requires fight choreography. 

SAMPSON / PETER / PETRUCHIO / CAPULET SERVANT (18-30 Any Gender): Various Capulet allies. This role requires fight choreography. 

GREGORY / PARIS /  CAPULET SERVANT (20-30 Any Gender): Various Capulet allies (including Paris, cousin to the Prince, and Juliet’s suitor). This role requires intimacy choreography and fight choreography. 

MONTAGUE / FRIAR JOHN (40+ Male Presenting): – Father to Romeo. / Friend to Friar Lawrence. This role requires fight choreography. 

LADY MONTAGUE / APOTHECARY (40+ Female Presenting): Mother to Romeo. / Provides poison to Romeo.
