Assistant Director: Alex Barr
About the Play:
In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through the eyes of it’s heroine. After a sudden death on her wedding day, Eurydice enters the Underworld, where her memories disappear and she is reunited with her father. As Orpheus follows her, determined to bring her home, Eurydice is faced with impossible choices about love, identity, and remembrance. Tender, funny, and surreal, the play uses language, music, movement, and ensemble storytelling to examine how we hold onto one another, and what it means to let go.
Please prepare the following for your audition:
All performers should come dressed comfortably and be prepared to move and vocalize based on their personal capabilities. Performers are encouraged to bring some form of tool with which to make music to the audition. Callbacks, if required, will consist of scenework from the script, and sides will be provided in advance.

Characters
Eurydice (Female Presenting, Age Range 20-30, Any Race)
A young woman who loves books, ideas, and language. Romantic but thoughtful, vulnerable yet sharp. Eurydice’s journey is one of remembering who she is and what she wants. This role requires emotional honesty, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit.
Orpheus (Male Presenting, Age Range 20-30, Any Race)
A gifted musician whose devotion to his art is inseparable from his devotion to Eurydice. Passionate, sincere, and emotionally driven, though not always grounded. Some form of singing ability is required; instrumental skill is a plus.
Her Father (The role of the Father has already been cast)
A loving, steady presence in the Underworld. Patient, kind, and quietly humorous, he offers Eurydice guidance, comfort, and connection.
A Nasty Interesting Man / Lord of the Underworld (Any Gender, Age Range 40+, Any Race)
A strange and unsettling figure who delights in control and disruption. Appears first as a smooth manipulator, then as a childish, impulsive ruler of the Underworld.
The Stones (All demographics aged 13+ are welcome to audition for the Stones. Comfort with rhythm and movement required)
An ensemble chorus who inhabit the Underworld. They observe, comment, and enforce its rules, often through movement and group rhythm. The Stones are both funny and unforgiving. Could be played as children. Could be played by teens.
Big Stone: Authoritative and grounded.
Little Stone: Inquisitive, lighter, and morally aware.
Loud Stone: Bold, reactive, and highly expressive.
