ABOUT THE PLAY: Chainsaws? Check. Singing Zombies? Check. A cabin in the woods and a whole lot of fake blood? Absolutely! The gleefully gory musical mashup based on the cult classic Evil Dead film series serves up over-the-top horror with a side of catchy tunes and outrageous comedy. It follows five college students who unleash ancient demons in an isolated cabin. Armed with a chainsaw and “boomsitck”, S-Mart employee Ash must battle his possessed friends. It’s campy, gory, and absurdly fun, a wild ride you don’t want to miss.

REHEARSALS: Rehearsals begin in late August, early September. The rehearsals schedule will be finalized after casting based on cast member conflicts. The goal is to have 5-day/per week rehearsal schedule.

WHAT TO BRING: A headshot, one-page theatrical resume, AUDITION INFORMATION form, and 16-32 bars of sheet music for your audition song.

VOCAL AUDITIONS: Choose a 16-bar cut (30 seconds to one minute) of a song that showcases your vocal range and performance ability. Pop/rock and contemporary musical theatre are the styles of show music. Please make sure you have properly prepared your sheet music for our audition pianist: in the correct key, properly printed with ALL notes and words visible, hole-punched, and in a binder. Please no acapella singing

Cast of characters:

In reference to the character descriptions below – The characters in this show are on the binary and written with he/him or she/her pronouns as you will see in the following descriptions. However, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and ask gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to list on the audition form the roles they most identify with.

All roles are open to consideration regardless of background, ethnicity, or sexual/gender orientation. All roles are Non-Paying/Non-Equity.

The Main Survivors

Ash Williams: The iconic, dim witted S Mart housewares employee. He evolves from a reluctant, nervous college kid into a confident, chainsaw wielding, one:liner:spouting hero who battles Kandarian Demons.

Cheryl: Ash’s nerdy, easily spooked sister. She is the first to be possessed by the woods,  transforming into a brash, vulgar, and highly comedic demon.

Linda: Ash’s perfect, sweet girlfriend. She acts as a voice of reason early on, but eventually becomes one of Ash’s most dangerous (and headless) adversaries.

Scott: Ash’s crude, rebellious, and selfish best friend. He’s the stereotypical “party guy” who ignores warnings, accidentally unleashes the evil, and is the first to suffer the consequences.

Annie: The brilliant, overbearing archaeologist. She arrives at the cabin searching for missing pages of the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead) and ends up leading the fight alongside Ash.

 Supporting Cast & Demons

Shelly: Scott’s beautiful, ditzy, and party loving fling. She is quickly possessed by the evil forces and becomes a taunting demon.

Ed: Annie’s cowardly, pushover boyfriend and fellow researcher. He eventually turns into a “bit part demon” while retaining his polite demeanor.

Jake: A stereotypical, stubborn Southern local. He is hired to help guide Annie and Ed to the cabin but is largely reliable only for comedic missteps.

Professor Knowby: The mysterious original owner of the cabin and the voice on the audio recordings who first translated the Book of the Dead.

The Moose: A highly unusual, mounted Candarian Demon moose head on the cabin wall that comes to life and belts out songs.

 Ensemble & Creatures

Evil Trees: Sentient, nasty trees of the forest that trap and attack the campers.

Fake Shemps / Demons: A catch:all for various ensemble members who play background demons, severed body parts (including Ash’s possessed, detached hand), and other background gags.
