Matthews Playhouse announces auditions for the World Premiere of One Year to Die

Announcing auditions for the world premiere of One Year to Die, a gripping new play by Charles LaBorde developed in collaboration with Dennis Delamar. Matthews Playhouse is proud to be the first theatre to produce this compelling new work that follows the story of two American women – one black, one white – who await official word regarding their sons’ fates during World War II.

Actors must be available for all performances. September 19th is a preview performance.

All skill levels, body types, skin colors and gender expressions are encouraged to audition. This production contains mature subject matter; actors under 18 need written permission from parents to participate. Auditions will be cold readings for adult actors, sides given to you at your audition. When auditioning keep in mind accent wise, the play is set in the South, in Louisiana.

All performance roles are volunteer.

Looking for: 1 principal male character and 8 supporting characters (2 adult females or female presenting, 4 adult males or male presenting, 2 boys). Two principal female roles (Paula Baldwin & Corlis Hayes) were cast during the play’s early development in 2023. Because a key plot element of the play involves racial interactions and prejudices among Blacks and Whites in the South in 1943-1944, the characters are race-specific as specified in the character breakdown list.
