Queen City Concerts announces auditions for RENT

QC Concerts is proud to present RENT, September 6-7, 2024 at the Booth Playhouse at Blumenthal Arts. This production will be directed/music directed by Zachary Tarlton, with a co-director to be announced. This will be a mixed-media, immersive production and will be performed off-book.

QC Concerts is committed to casting a diverse and unique group of individuals, representative of the vast community that we serve. All ethnicities, identities, and abilities/disabilities encouraged to audition for any role.

Auditions for RENT will be at LUMI School of Musical Theatre:

Sunday, June 9th from 2:00pm-5:00pm
Monday, June 10th from 7:00pm-9:00pm
Callbacks for RENT are scheduled for Thursday, June 13th from 7:00pm-9:00pm

Those auditioning should prepare 16-32 bars of music from a musical theatre or pop/rock style song. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

All roles are volunteer.

Character Breakdown:

Roger Davis
A struggling musician and former drug addict. Roommates with Mark in the loft and battles with being HIV-positive.

Mark Cohen
Filmmaker and video artist. Knee deep in his own soul-searching, Mark is the typical young artist. He and Roger are roommates in the loft. A bit of a nerd.

Tom Collins
A computer genius and liberal professor. He is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Used to be a roommate in the loft and is HIV-positive.

Benjamin Coffin III
The landlord of Mark and Roger’s apartment building. A former roommate in the loft, Benny traded in his personal morals for power and wealth.

Joanne Jefferson
A public interest lawyer. She is smart and purposeful in all her decisions. Carries on a tumultuous relationship with Maureen.

Angel Dumott Schunard
The eccentric HIV-positive street drummer. A drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and a magnetic personality. They become Tom’s lover.

Mimi Marquez
An HIV-positive stripper with drug addictions. She lives in the same building as the loft.

Maureen Johnson
An unpredictably zany performance artist. Maureen oozes sexuality and used to live in the loft. She has recently dumped Mark for Joanne.
