Auditions for “Matilda” at The Green Room Community Theatre are just around the corner! With music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly, “Matilda” is based on the novel by Roald Dahl. The musical tells the story of a young girl with extraordinary intelligence and a vivid imagination, who uses her powers to overcome adversity and find her place in the world.
Auditions for this production will be held on Sept. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. The show is being produced by McCreary Modern and Peoples Bank. This production will be directed by Allison Andrews, musically directed by Jessica Cockroft, choreographed by Jared Wachsmuth and stage managed by Jordan Spears. Roles are available for adults and youth ages 7 and up, with a large cast of 30-40 roles. All ethnicities are welcome. Detailed character descriptions and additional information can be found on the audition page of our website at thegreenroomtheatre.org. All roles are volunteer.
For the singing portion of the audition, please prepare a song from the show that corresponds to the character you are most interested in playing. Specific measure numbers and copies of the songs can be found on our website. If you are not singing from the show, please bring sheet music in the appropriate key (16-32 bars) for the song you choose. An accompanist will be provided. The audition will also include a dance call, so dress in comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes. Additionally, you may be asked to read from the script.
You must be available for all performances, scheduled for Nov. 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and Dec. 1. Please bring your list of rehearsal conflicts to the audition. Attendance at all tech week rehearsals (the week before the show opens) is mandatory unless a rare exception is approved by the director in advance. Conflicts do not necessarily exclude you from a role.
