Teenager Byron Watson can’t seem to stay out of trouble, so his parents decide it’s time for him to have a lengthy stay with strict Grandma Sands in Birmingham. Together with siblings Kenny and Joetta, the family heads south. Blending moments of humor and despair, this story culminates in a horrific moment in American history giving insight into growing up as a young African-American in the 1960’s.
The director is seeking talented actors for the following roles. While the actual age of actors may vary, they should be able to convincingly portray the ages listed:
- 1 African-American female to play a 6-year-old
- 2 African-American males to play 10-year-olds
- 2 African-American males to play mid to late teens
- 1 African-American female to play a grandmother (approximately 60 years old)
- Other African-American adults to portray 30-year-olds and older
All performance roles are volunteer. The Green Room Community Theatre is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. In order for this show to be true to history and the script, the director is looking for an all African-American cast.
You must be available for all performances which are scheduled for February 21, 22, 23, 28, & March 1, 2, 2025 and a Producer’s night TBD. Please bring your list of rehearsal conflicts with you. You MUST be able to attend all of the tech week (the week before the show opens) unless in rare emergency cases an exception is approved before being cast by the director.
