The Green Room Community Theatre (TGR) is seeking a skilled, organized, and collaborative Technical Director to join its team at the historic Old Post Office Playhouse in downtown Newton, NC. This position supports the theatre’s mission to Entertain, Educate, and Engage through high-quality community theatre.
The Technical Director oversees all technical aspects of productions and facility operations, including lighting, sound, scenic design and construction, and rigging safety and oversight. Working closely with directors, designers, staff, and volunteers, the Technical Director plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and professional productions throughout the season.
Key responsibilities include building theatre sets and overseeing scenic construction; supervising lighting, sound, scenery, and rigging; overseeing load-ins, technical rehearsals, and strikes; maintaining theatre equipment and the scene shop; enforcing backstage and rigging safety protocols; and training and supervising volunteers and interns. Proficiency in Vectorworks or other relevant theatrical software is preferred.
Qualified candidates should have experience as a Technical Director or in a similar role, with a strong working knowledge of lighting, sound, scenic construction, and theatrical rigging. Experience working with volunteers or educational theatre environments is a plus. Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills are essential.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights, and stand, climb, and work backstage for extended periods. Salary range: $40,000 – $50,000. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
