UNC Chapel Hill seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor of Costume Technology

UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Dramatic Art is seeking an experienced costume technician and educator to join our vibrant community of theatre artists and scholars as a Teaching Assistant Professor of Costume Technology.

At Carolina, teaching and professional theatre practice happen side by side. Our MFA Costume Production program is closely integrated with PlayMakers Repertory Company, UNC’s professional theatre company, giving students hands-on experience alongside their classroom training.

The successful candidate will teach three courses each semester, primarily in draping and patternmaking; mentor MFA students during production hours in the PlayMakers costume shop; mentor undergraduate student designers with the Kenan Theatre Company (KTC); and teach one undergraduate course. Opportunities to work directly on PlayMakers and/or KTC productions may also be available.

We’re looking for an accomplished costume professional who is excited to share their craft with the next generation of theatre artists. Design experience is not required. Candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience teaching, draping, or costume shop management, along with experience working with students. Experience with CLO3D patternmaking software, tailoring, digital embroidery, or related areas of costume technology is a plus.

Salary: $60,000-$62,000, plus benefits.

Come teach, make, and create theatre with us at Carolina.
